“We are really excited to be able to present Tobii Pro Glasses 3 as part of our offering of solutions! This new eye tracker has cameras and illuminators integrated into the lenses, and offers improved performance compared to previous hardware; the re-design makes them look more and more like normal glasses. The increased size of the camera’s field of view allows for framing a larger portion of the environment where the test is carried out.”

Tobii, the world leader in research solutions with eye tracking technology, today launched Tobii Pro Glasses 3, the next-generation wearable eye tracker, built to monitor attentional processes in any real-world scenario.
Now researchers can more easily obtain objective information on human behavior. For businesses, this means having more information available to make decisions on investments in design and marketing and accessing a deeper understanding of the work environment, with the aim of improving productivity and safety. For scientific researchers, Tobii Pro Glasses 3 will lead to new insights and greater data robustness.

How it works

Tobii Pro Glasses 3 collect the visual data of the wearer and record a video with audio of the surrounding environment. From the data analysis, researchers can draw conclusions about what drives behaviors and the decision-making process. For the wearer, the sophisticated eye-tracking technology of Pro Glasses 3 is virtually invisible. The experience is exactly the same as wearing a pair of normal glasses.

Based on the experience derived from the extensive use of its predecessors, Tobii Glasses 2, the technical characteristics and advantages of Tobii Pro Glasses 3 include:

  • Integration of four extremely small eye cameras and 16 illuminators inserted into the lenses that offer a unique combination of eye tracking performance and no obstruction of the user’s field of view.
  • Wide-angle video camera that captures a larger area of the surrounding environment.
  • Software Controller installable via app for Android and Windows devices that allows easy and flexible wireless control of recordings.
  • Eye tracking data is collected at 50 or 100 hertz and slippage compensation technology allows for robust eye tracking data during recordings, even when the glasses move relative to their original position or are taken off and put back on.
  • The accessory kit includes safety lenses with additional IR blocking, which allow data collection in outdoor and/or bright environments and in situations requiring eye protection.
  • The new thinner and more robust design allows the Tobii Pro 3 glasses to be worn under personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets and hard hats.

Examples of application areas

Scientific researchers obtain a unique point of view on human behavior and a deeper understanding of an individual’s cognitive process. Glasses 3 allow research to be taken out of the laboratory into real contexts and make it possible in many application areas such as interactions with interfaces, social interactions, traffic safety and more.

Consumer behavior analysis professionals and UX researchers can visualize and measure the objective customer experience in any scenario. They can obtain insights into a multiplicity of questions, such as: which pack design will attract the most attention and most likely convert into a purchase? Which product is noticed and what is ignored? How can I design a car dashboard to be as intuitive as possible, while keeping the driver’s eyes on the road?

In the field of Professional Performances, Tobii Pro Glasses 3 can help companies understand important operational details, offering fundamental information on what is the best visual strategy for worker safety and productivity and whether established procedures are followed correctly.
