Recording Eye Movements: WHY? The study of eye movements is useful for the analysis of behavior that people display during certain activities, in order to objectively assess the usability of an object or item. This results, in the first case, in information on the ability of the subject to follow a specific task; as in cases where it is desirable to measure the ability for someone to carry out their duty, such as of a pilot to fly an aircraft, etc. (selection and ratings). Information is obtained on explorative capacities, on concentration levels, and on reflexes. The second instance examines the interaction between individuals and tools, and then considers whether the tool is capable of performing the function for which it was designed. For example, one can evaluate the usability of a website, an advertising method, a control panel, or a telephone. The analysis predicts the speed of retrieval of information, communication capabilities, ease of use and user satisfaction. Other forms of investigation produce similar results, but none is as fast, accurate and, above all, irrefutably capable of highlighting what the details are that capture the attentive capacity of the subject involved in the interaction.
